Impact of Plastic Waste Ingestion by Fish

چکیده

The research was conducted based on the exposure of a fish diversity to different concentrations and types plastic waste, either by direct ingestion, contaminated environments, or transfer through trophic chain. degrees affections these wastes cause are described; also, comparison results some authors in their experiments has been included. As result, it concluded that waste is easily assimilated fish, regardless dimensions, microplastics act as aquatic vectors capable transporting organic inorganic matters which have potential harm marine organisms absorb them directly indirectly. size ingested microplastic function size; smaller length, waste; additionally, pelagic species more likely be ingestion because they inhabit mid-water near surface. Microplastic particles can transferred levels presence receiving body generates series enzymatic responses including bioaccumulation mercury (Hg), other, combination both, would causing oxidative stress. There likelihood transferring contaminants levels, could trigger illnesses consumers, high probability especially for populations living maritime routes close urban industrial areas. It necessary adopt binding government policies allow establishment controls prevent entry plastics beaches.

Plastic microfibre ingestion by deep-sea organisms

Plastic waste is a distinctive indicator of the world-wide impact of anthropogenic activities. Both macro- and micro-plastics are found in the ocean, but as yet little is known about their ultimate fate and their impact on marine ecosystems. In this study we present the first evidence that microplastics are already becoming integrated into deep-water organisms. By examining organisms that live ...

Data Set 5: Parasite Ingestion by Fish

“Pink spot” disease of Porites corals is caused by infection by the digenetic trematode* Podocotyloides stenometra. The pink spots are individual coral polyps which have been infected by immature stages of the parasite, which form cysts inside the coral tentacles and cause the polyp to swell and become pink colored. One step in the very complex life-cycle of this parasite occurs when a fish fee...

Beyond plastic waste

ith more than 8 million tons of plastic entering the ocean each year, humanity must urgently rethink the way we make and use plastics, so that they do not become waste in the first place. Cheap, light, and versatile, plastics are the dominant materials of our modern economy. Their production is expected to double over the next two decades. Yet, only 14% of all plastic packaging is collected for...
